We are very excited to welcome you to what is sure to be a wondrous first year of your child’s formal education. Please expect that your child will be both challenged and engaged. We have been planning all summer long for their arrival and there are plenty of fun learning experiences lined up for them. The first of which is an “All About Me” project. Your child will decorate a brown paper bag and fill it with 3-5 objects to share about themselves. It is to be returned to school on September 11th. Your child will present their project to classmates and explain all of the wonderful things that make him/her special. Similar projects that coincide with thematic units will be sent home on a monthly basis.
In an effort to answer some of your questions about how this year will run, I have compiled a list of what to expect. I realize that you may have additional questions and for that reason we have included our school extensions and school email address.
Continually check your child’s folder for correspondence. Many of the papers sent home must be completed and returned quickly. You may also check the school website for information. (look for folders later this week)
Money sent to school must be sent in a sealed envelope marked with child’s name, amount and purpose. All trip payments are made at the front desk and on Power School.
A note must be sent in after each absence, otherwise the absence will be coded as unexcused.
Supplies sent into school will remain in the classroom & you will need a supply of crayons, pencils, glue, scissors, etc. at home for homework.
Accidents happen so please send in a change of clothes (including underwear & socks) in a clear plastic bag labeled with your child’s name.
Toys, cell phones, gum, candy, jewelry, etc. are a distraction and will be confiscated.
Homework will be given every day and checked on Friday, it is an important reinforcement of the skills taught for the day.
If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday in the classroom, please give at least 1 week's’ notice so we can rearrange the schedule to accommodate your request.
Volunteering in the classroom and chaperoning class trips are expected & there will be plenty of opportunities to do so.
Parents are asked to send in a class supply of healthy snacks once a month (25 students). Please send in a September snack as soon as possible. This will ensure that students will have a snack each afternoon. Due to allergies, we cannot give out any products with nuts.
